Balanced by our desire to provide spiritual and emotional healing in addition to physical care, Penrose Cancer Center actively participates in research programs and clinical trials to help uncover the most advanced cancer treatment options and ensure the best outcomes for our patients. As part of our commitment to clinical research, we test a large number of treatment innovations and new medications and have multiple clinical trials in progress funded by the National Cancer Institute (NCI), the Colorado Cancer Research Program (CCRP) and a number of pharmaceutical companies. We also participate in The Cancer Genome Atlas (TCGA), a comprehensive and coordinated effort to accelerate our understanding of the molecular basis of cancer through the application of genome analysis technologies. Your physician can best answer whether such a program is right for you and your treatment goals followed by the assistance of a clinical research nurse to help determine your eligibility.
Clinical trials help doctors find better ways to prevent, screen, diagnose and treat disease including developing new and effective medications to win the war against cancer. As a patient, you have the power and choice to help fight that war by contributing to the collective knowledge base.
